So you are an artist and you have certain people who are would be potential fans that approach you. It doesn’t matter
whether it’s the internet in your inbox or in person you have to at least show some respect and attention to who is engaging you.
In my experience being a producer but also a fan of music. Ive approach some artist that have either gave me the cold shoulder
and/or either left money on the table, because I wanted to purchase their material out of respect for their art.
So that future artist won’t make the same mistakes as the ones I have dealt. Here is some music advice in the following sections should be able to help
you keep an potential fan.
Don’t tell them “Google Me”:
This has been a recurring thing with many different artist that I have came in contact with. What this does for me or a would
be potential fan is turn me off from engaging any further. Why? Because let’s say for example we are on social media just networking.
It doesn’t feel personable to just tell a person to go on a wild goose chase to search and filter your name just to get to your music.
You have to look at it as your calling card when you talk to somebody or they will lose interest quick. So my advice is just to send
a link or an URL to your primary website, soundcloud etc. so they will be able to check out you material in one click of an button.
Another example would be if you were in front of a person in a networking event. If you even dare to ask them to google you without
having something as an backup such as an CDs with your info or a card with your info you are losing them on site.
Dont Spam, Actually talk:
Everyday someone random person is in my inbox on Facebook trying to show their work or sell their product. The problem is
I don’t know them nor trust them. And this is where building a fundamental relationship should always begin. Its kind of
hard to sell yourself to someone you don’t know or trust. For instance, if I approached you on the streets with something with
a trying to sell you a service or product but we haven’t even build rapport you would be kind of suspicious of me right?
So the name of the game is build your rapport and give people a genuine reason they should trust you.
