In case you don’t know me I have been in the music production for nine years. I have a couple of major placements but those arent big accomplishments to me. I still have a long journey ahead of me and I am not near where I want to be. In the course of my nine years however I learned a lot about myself as well as doing business. Here are the 3 things I learned from the music business or still learning lol.
1. Patience
One thing that has serve me greatly in music and also in life was patience. Because everything I have ever rushed was always an failure. I guess thats the one thing that will teach you something in life, falling flat on your face. Honestly, I can say that working diligently to improve on myself and also working in goals. Patience was the one thing that has comforted me in the process. You see, with patience come the understanding that time takes its course and you have absolutely not control over time. Time is the most valuable commodity that you will ever have. Its not just because time is money, time is everything. Thats one of the reasons that goals have to be planned and schedule accordingly. See In these nine years of music production, I can honestly say that working on my craft and always keeping the goal in site makes much of a difference than rushing things to quit. With patience I learned that any goal can be obtained its just up to me and my attitude about my situation and circumstances.
2. Networking
Your network is you net worth. And if you don’t believe that you will most likely understand this in the long run. I have connected a lot of dots with a lot of people. Like the quote says, “its not what you know its who you know” really does matter in this business. Connections will get you further than anything in business period. When I surf the net and talk to people I don’t know but naturally gel with them on the common ground of music. We get to know each other and feel each other out. If you don’t connect the dots with people you can never get ahead. With people they are usually only way through a different doors of ideas and possibilities.
3. Knowledge
To be in the know will give you the wisdom to understand what you are up against. The music business can be very shady and unpredictable. I had my bouts with artist(major ones included) that couldn’t see eye to eye with my standards. This is normal in business, that is why you soak up as much intelligence as possible. Know who, what, why and how to deal with them when it comes to the business aspect. Learn law terms, mechanicals, products, taxes etc. LEARN IT ALL! Don’t be afraid to ask questions, you may be missing important information if you never open your mouth. Remember it is up to you to seek whatever you want to find.
